The Show Horse Council of Tasmania is an organisation devoted to fostering and promoting the Show Horse sport within Tasmania.

Levels of Competition

Show Horse Council of Tasmania conducts an ‘open section‘ for exhibitors and horses that have won or placed at a Royal Show or Horse of the Year competition.

Our prestigious annual Horse of the Year event which is held on the October/November long weekend. We conduct Newcomer and Open classes for the Show Horse and Hunter Horse and Rider classes for Open riders in their appropriate age groups.

Champions and Reserve Champions in our Open Show Horse, Hunter Horse, and Rider classes are invited to compete in the Grand National Saddle Horse Championships held annually in Sydney.

Show Horse Council Tasmania Inc. Endeavours to cater for all who wish to become involved in the showing of horses and foster the sport through the provision of Seminars, Clinics, Information Provision, Hacking, Rider and Leading Rein events.

Membership for Active Riding Members and Junior Active Riding Members includes 24/7 Personal Accident Insurance for all horse-related activities. Included is Public Liability cover at all Show Horse Council official Events.

SHCT Guiding Principles

  • Promote and encourage the sport of showing Saddle Horses, Galloways, Ponies, and riding competitions of all kinds throughout Tasmania.
  • Promote and raise the standards for the exhibiting of horses.
  • Foster, promote, and protect the interests of horses and horse competitors at shows and exhibitions.
  • Conduct the Show Horse Council of Tasmania Horse of the Year and Rider of the Year championships annually.
  • To Source and provide information and development opportunities to competitors and officials.
  • Promote good fellowship, fair play, and sportsmanship amongst members and those participating in or attending shows.
  • The regulation of competitors, judges and show organisers to adopt and abide by the standards, rules, and requirements as recommended by the Show Horse Council of Tasmania for the conduct of shows.
